Family Adoption Services offers domestic and international home studies as well as post-placement studies. We cover the state of Alabama including but not limited to Birmingham, Huntsville, Auburn, Montgomery, and Tuscaloosa. Family Adoption Services is a licensed child-placing facility with experience working with ICPC. Simply stated, ICPC is the legal process by which adoptions transfer from one state to another. We are typically able to complete home studies within a few short weeks of applicants completing the required paperwork. We have received excellent feedback from clients related to the ease of the process, the availability of our staff, and the relatively brief time-frame in which we are able to complete studies.
Steps:
Step 1: Initial Phone Consultation with Family Adoption Services
Please call 205.612.0238 Monday – Thursday from 8:30am-4:30pm. We will discuss your eligibility, our services, and the process.
Step 2: Initial Meeting in Birmingham Office of Family Adoption Services
This consultation is free of charge and gives you an opportunity for both the prospective adoptive parents and the agency staff to get to know one another. We will discuss many topics related to adoption and your hopes and dreams of adopting. If both the agency and prospective adoptive parents wish to move forward, you will then move on to Step 3.
Step 3: Completion of Your Home Study Paperwork
We will provide you with the forms and instructions needed and we will guide you through the process.
Step 4: In-Home Visit with Social Worker
After your paperwork is complete and approved, you will then have a social worker come to your home for further interviews and a home-safety inspection. We will make every effort to work with you to schedule this visit at a time that is convenient for you. We will work with you prior to this meeting to prepare you and help you feel comfortable. In most cases, you will receive a copy of your notarized, completed, home study within days of this visit.
